Week 7 notes project planning
Poor scope statements
I need a PRETTY BIG WEBSITE which works on everything, that people can use to BUY STUFF
i need it QUICKLY and its got to look absolutely AMAZING
I can pay about 5K GIVE OR TAKE
i want it to accept all credit cards and CRYPTO. Ive got to be able to update the pages MYSELF
This is a massivley ambitious and ambiguous project scope. Our job as Pm would he to ask the tricky questions and narrow the job down
Better scope statement
I need an e-commerce website built upon (platform) with a. Initial agreed 100 pages developed before the deadline
Scope Creep , PMBOCK, 2008
Adding features and functionality without addressing the effects on time will bloat a project and could result in project failure.
Got to learn to say NO
———————————————————————
How does it happen?
• Client has unfiltered access to team – asking for favours.
• Lack of clarity / detail during kick-off – assumptions are made about the size and features of things
• Lack of detailed planning / understanding- as above
• Poorly defined initial requirements capture – as above
• Manager “promised the earth” to make the sale – poorly managed expectations 😢
MoSCoW Prioritisation (Clegg, 1994)
MoSCoW is a DSDM artefact which allows teams to understand project priorities:
• Must haves – the deliverable must include this (legal, unsafe etc.) • Should have – important but not vital (still viable)
• Could have – wanted or desirable but less important
• Won’t have – definitely won’t be included – “out of scope”

As an account manager I want a sales report of my account to be sent to my inbox daily so that so that I can monitor the sales progress of my customersAs an editor I must be able to update (access/ control) the content on the platform, so that I can properly edit the content
As a moderator of the site I must be able to access an admin (Filter Key words) account, So that I can moderate the content on the platform.
As a writer/ Author I must be able to spellcheck my work, So that I can create a story without many faults.
